Established by the NCHA Executive Committee, the Affiliate of the Year Award recognizes affiliates that demonstrate exceptional dedication to promoting the sport of cutting, supporting NCHA members, and creating opportunities for competitors at the grassroots level.
The Utah Cutting Horse Association earned the distinction through its longstanding commitment to growing the sport and developing the next generation of cutters. Organized since 1983, the affiliate now serves approximately 200 to 250 active members and has seen steady growth in participation, increasing from an average of 105 works per show day in 2018 to approximately 140 to 150 works per day today.
A hallmark of the Utah Cutting Horse Association is its focus on newcomer and youth development. Through its “Never Won A Buckle” program, the affiliate creates an inviting entry point for first-time competitors, while its youth scholarship program, established in 2001, has awarded more than $169,000 in scholarships to young cutters pursuing higher education. The affiliate also supports Utah High School Rodeo athletes, promotes educational opportunities through judges' clinics, and continues to invest heavily in year-end awards and member recognition.
PK Cutters was named the 2025 Reserve Affiliate of the Year in recognition of its continued commitment to competitors, families, and the cutting horse industry. Known throughout the region for its welcoming atmosphere and professionally managed events, PK Cutters has become one of the most consistent and respected affiliates in the NCHA.
Hosting six to seven weekends of competition annually, PK Cutters has maintained strong participation numbers while remaining focused on the competitor experience. The affiliate's innovative "First Check Buckle" program celebrates first-time earnings recipients, while its support of youth competitors, Texas High School Rodeo programs, and community initiatives reflects its dedication to growing the sport at every level.
This marks the second time in three years that PK Cutters has received national recognition, having also been named Reserve Affiliate of the Year in 2023. The affiliate's commitment to family values, quality events, and meaningful member engagement continues to set it apart as a leader within the NCHA affiliate network.
"Strong affiliates are essential to the future of our association and our sport," said Jay Winborn, Executive Director of the NCHA. "The Utah Cutting Horse Association and PK Cutters have both demonstrated an exceptional commitment to serving their members, supporting youth involvement, and creating opportunities for cutters of all experience levels. Their efforts not only strengthen their local communities but also help ensure the continued growth and success of cutting across the country. We are proud to recognize both organizations for their outstanding contributions."
These awards will be presented during the NCHA Hall of Fame Gala and Awards Ceremony held in conjunction with the 2026 NCHA Convention at the South Point Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada.
