NCHA MOURNS THE PASSING OF HALL OF FAME MEMBER TERRY STRANGE

NCHA is saddened by the passing of Terry Strange.

FORT WORTH, TX — The National Cutting Horse Association (NCHA) mourns the passing of James Terry Strange, a longtime member, respected leader, and dedicated volunteer whose integrity, generosity, and service left a lasting impact on the Association and the sport of cutting. Terry passed away on January 14, 2026, in Houston, Texas, at the age of 81.

Terry was known for his kindness, wisdom, and unwavering commitment to excellence. His influence extended from the corporate boardroom to the cutting horse arena, where he brought the same principled leadership and stewardship that defined his professional career.

Terry served the NCHA with distinction for nine years on the Finance Committee, including many years as Chairman, helping guide the Association through critical financial decisions and ensuring a solid foundation for future generations. His dedication, expertise, and love of horses and the sport of cutting earned him a place in the NCHA Members Hall of Fame.

Following a distinguished career with KPMG, where he rose to serve as Vice Chairman and Managing Partner of the U.S. Audit Practice and later as Global Managing Partner of KPMG International’s Audit Practice, Terry retired and pursued his lifelong passion for horses. He and his wife, Charlotte, fulfilled a shared dream with the creation of El Sueño Ranch, a place that reflected their love of Texas, nature, and the cutting horse community.

A passionate horseman, Terry competed in NCHA events throughout Texas until a back injury limited his ability to show. Even then, his commitment to the Association never wavered. He continued to give generously of his time and knowledge, helping shape policies, mentor others, and support the long-term health of the organization. His mentorship, encouragement, and steady presence will be remembered by all who had the privilege of working alongside him.

The NCHA extends its deepest condolences to Charlotte, their family, and all who were touched by Terry’s life.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to the NCHA Foundation, the University of North Texas, or the Bleiblerville Volunteer Fire Department.
