The award will be presented during the Open Semi-Finals of the 2025 NCHA Metallic Cat World Championship Futurity at the John Justin Arena in Fort Worth.
Established in memory of Zane Schulte, son of Thomas and Barbra Schulte, the annual award recognizes a professional trainer who exemplifies the integrity, service, values, respect among peers, contribution to the industry, and excellence in the arena that Zane himself embodied.
Hansma, a longtime NCHA member and respected horseman, shared that from the beginning of his career, he hoped to be recognized not only for his horsemanship but for his integrity — a value that has guided his path in and out of the show pen. Deeply appreciative of those who nominated him, Hansma expressed that the honor carries great personal meaning.
Speaking about Zane Schulte, Hansma added, “It’s a shame we even have this award, but I take the honor very seriously. Zane stood for so much of what’s good in this sport, and to be mentioned in connection with his name is something I’ll never take lightly.”
NCHA Executive Director Jay Winborn said, “Paul Hansma’s career has been defined by quiet excellence and humility. He is a role model for what the Zane Schulte Award stands for, and we are honored to recognize him as this year’s recipient.”
