FORT WORTH, TX— The National Cutting Horse Association (NCHA) is saddened to announce the passing of European member Paul Derrez, who died on January 12, 2025, at the age of 72. Derrez, the former president and founder of the NCHA Netherlands, will be greatly missed.
He made history as one of the pioneers who introduced the sport of cutting to Europe. His passion for the sport led him to establish the National Cutting Horse Association of the Netherlands (NCHAN), which became an official NCHA affiliate.
Derrez actively participated in the Low Land Cutting Tour, a series of competitions held across the Netherlands, Belgium, and Germany. He was often seen competing on Lucky Smart Peppy.
Working with cattle was a lifelong dream for Derrez, which he pursued by training cutting horses and coaching others eager to learn the sport he loved. Even as he aged, he remained engaged in cutting by offering lessons to aspiring participants.
We will deeply miss his dedication, wisdom, and advice. The NCHA will always honor his commitment to the sport of cutting and cherish the memories shared with him.
We zullen zijn toewijding, wijsheid en adviezen gaan missen...
