FORT WORTH, TX – The National Cutting Horse Association (NCHA) announces with great sadness the passing of Jerry Lee “Ham” Brown on January 3, 2025.
Born in Osceola County, Brown grew up surrounded by horses and cattle. As he got older, he began working on ranches around Florida where he inherited property from his grandfather. A third-generation cattleman, Brown was a member of the Florida Cattleman’s Association and Texas Cattleman’s Association and served on the Florida Farm Bureau and USDA’s ASCS boards.
Starting in 1950, Brown developed a love for cutting horses and began competing in 1981 alongside his wife. Brown served an NCHA director for 10 years as well as a member of the AQHA.
Brown’s obituary states: “Above all, Ham was a man of unwavering faith. Having accepted the Lord Jesus Christ as his personal savior at an early age, he did his best to live a life that was pleasing to “The Ole Master” (as he’d refer). He was a generous supporter of various local ministries as well as worldwide missions. He had a very generous heart, recognizing that God had blessed him above measure and in turn he used his blessings to help others.”
The NCHA will fondly remember Ham Brown and his time with the association.
