FORT WORTH, TX - The National Cutting Horse Association (NCHA) is deeply saddened to announce the passing of Rob Kuiper. Originally from Canada, Kuiper was a rancher with extensive experience working with horses and cattle.
Kuiper began his NCHA career as an Amateur cutter in 2000, where he entered the cutting community by participating in weekend events. In 2019, he began training with Russ Elrod, with additional support from Gary Gonsalves. His hard work paid off, and he started to achieve wins while riding Prince Of Cat (Smooth As A Cat x Call Me Queen B) and Dualsnap Talker (Smooth Talkin Style x Dualsnap).
His dedication, talent, and humility led him to be named Amateur of the Year in 2022, and he quickly achieved over $200,000 in NCHA lifetime earnings.
Kuiper passed away on the morning of November 10, 2024, near his hometown of Calgary, Alberta.
In the days leading up to his passing, Kuiper reflected on how his NCHA family became a significant part of his personal success story. He shared, “Some of my fondest memories come from the time I spent hauling for the NCHA World Finals. Throughout each competition, I collected what felt like a second family who supported and cheered me on while I attempted what seemed impossible.”
Kuiper went on to say, “I am humbled that, so late in my life, these strangers opened their homes and hearts to me. I left Alberta and moved to Weatherford to be closer to them all. I will miss you, my dear friends.”
Rob is survived by his beloved daughter, Katie, and his two grandchildren, Tessie and Edison.
