Frank Martin selected as the recipient of the Mary Kingsbury Award

FRANK MARTIN SELECTED AS THE 2021 MARY KINGSBURY AMATEUR SPORTSMANSHIP AWARD RECIPIENT

FORT WORTH – The National Cutting Horse Association (NCHA) would like to congratulate Frank Martin on being selected as the 2021 recipient of the Mary Kingsbury Amateur Sportsmanship Award.

Each year, the Mary Kingsbury Amateur Sportsmanship Award is presented to an active NCHA amateur who is dedicated to the sport of cutting, in good standing with NCHA, exhibits good sportsmanship, fairness, and a high moral character both in and out of the arena. Frank Martin exhibits these qualities through and through, according to all of those who nominated him for this award.

“Attend any cutting horse event and you will know instantly that Frank Martin is in the house,” said Doris Koehne, one of the many members who nominated Martin for the award. “There is no greater cheerleader than Frank. Being a true sportsman, Frank will cheer and support everyone whether you are a beginner or his toughest competitor!”

Martin has been an NCHA member since 1980 and currently resides in Las Vegas, Nevada, but calls home wherever there is a cutting. An active competitor in both weekend and limited age events alike, Martin holds his Non-Pro/Amateur card and successfully competes in multiple classes, but he is just as well known for cheering on his competitors.

“I was unbelievably surprised when I go that phone call [saying that I received the award] because that is the last thing in the world I would ever have expected to receive,” Martin said. “What I do at a cutting is try and make sure that everyone there has a great time. If I can contribute in some small way to their experience, it just tickles me pink. I want to make sure that people have a good experience, no matter where I’m at.”

Martin’s name will be added to the Mary Kingsbury Amateur Sportsmanship Award perpetual plaque at the NCHA office, and he will be presented with a bronze trophy sponsored by the Lackey Family during the upcoming 2021 NCHA Metallic Cat World Championship Futurity.
