NYCHA Youth Week Update

Jun 11, 2020, 17:30 PM by Callie McCarthy
Changes to the NYCHA Youth Week schedule.

THE NCHA YOUTH WEEK WILL SEE NEW CHANGES IN 2020

The National Cutting Horse Association (NCHA) has made changes to the upcoming National Youth Cutting Horse Association (NYCHA) Youth Week, scheduled for July 12 -16 in Fort Worth, Texas due to the guidelines in place as a result of COVID-19. The NYCHA Youth week is held in conjunction with the 2020 NCHA Metallic Cat Summer Cutting Spectacular.

This year, NCHA will not be able to host many of the large group activities including the cutting clinic, family fun night, talent show, banquet and dance. However, the staff is working diligently to develop an alternative plan for the contests that take place outside of the arena. The NCHA has been looking into different virtual approaches for our youth to continue to participate in events like the public speaking contest and officer elections.

“We are being asked to adhere to the guidelines set forth by Will Rogers Memorial Complex and the State of Texas in regard to COVID-19,” Jay Winborn, NCHA Executive Director, said. “Due to these guidelines, attendees will see adjustments to the cutting portion of Youth Week to maximize the health and safety of our youth members and their families during the show.”

Winborn and Mike Simmons, NCHA Director of Youth, along with the staff have been working together to ensure that the youth members will have a great experience during youth week. The 2020 NCHA Holy Cow Performance Horses Youth World Finals and the 2020 NCHA Foundation Youth Scholarship Cutting will remain as scheduled.

“We want to make sure that each of our members are still going home with a great experience from their time in Fort Worth,” Simmons said. “Our youth members have worked tirelessly to prepare for the Youth Week and all the events that it brings. Ultimately, the health and safety of all attendees is our top priority, but I am confident that we will have a great world finals and scholarship cutting despite the changes this year has brought.”

NCHA continues to monitor the situation and will notify members with additional changes. For the most recent schedule of events and the latest news visit nchacutting.com/events/summer-spectacular.
