Langston Pattillo wins Classic Challenge Non-Pro

Langston Pattillo, St, Elmo, Il., scored 224 points riding Miss Lacey, by Kit Kat Sugar, to win the 2020 NCHA Metallic Cat Summer Spectacular Non-Pro Classic Challenge on Wednesday, July 29. Rebecca Sheehan, Weatherford, Tex., on Counting Starz, by Smooth As A Cat, and Ali Good, Ringling, Okla., showing Code Belue, by Cat Belue, tied with 222 points for the reserve championship while Cody Hedlund and Kristen Galyean tied with 218.5, showing Teles One Time, by One Time Royalty, and Duramax Dually, by Dual Rey, respectively.

In addition to his win on Miss Lacey, Langston Pattillo, the 2018 NCHA Amateur Rider of the Year and NCHA earner of $419,148, also showed his 2019 NCHA Derby Non-Pro reserve champion Shesa Tuff Teaspoon to place seventeenth in Wednesday’s Classic Challenge Non-Pro Finals. Earlier this year, Pattillo won the Bonanza 5/6 Amateur Unlimited with Miss Lacey LTE $24,342, and the Arbuckle Mountain 5/6 Amateur on Shesa Tuff Teaspoon LTE $35,226, by Woody Be Tuff.

Pattillo also won the 2019 and 2018 NCHA Classic Challenge Amateur Unlimited, as well as the 2018 Classic Challenge Amateur championship riding High Stylin CD LTE $269,179, by High Brow CD.

Bred by Jon and Traci Burgess, Weatherford, Tex., Miss Lacey is a half-sister, out of Smart Gemolena, by Smart Little Lena, to Im On A Safari LTE $205,416, 2003 NCHA Classic Challenge Open champion under Kobie Wood.

Rebecca Sheehan, the NCHA earner of $42,839, was last year’s NCHA Derby Non-Pro Limited reserve champion showing Counting Starz, and also won this year’s Classic Challenge 5/6 Non-Pro Limited on the Kit Kat Sugar daughter. Bred by Rebecca Sheehan, Counting Starz LTE $49,836 is out of Starlight Starbrite LTE $136,764, who was shown as 2011 NCHA Futurity Open Limited reserve champion and NCHA Super Stakes Open finalist by Geoffrey Sheehan, Rebecca’s husband and trainer of Counting Starz.

Ali Good, the NCHA Non-Pro Hall of Fame earner of $395,625, showed Code Belue LTE $84,647 as reserve champion of the 2020 Bonanza 5/6 Non-Pro and earned finals money at the Cattlemen’s and Arbuckle Mountain. In addition, Good and Code Belue were finalists in the NCHA Classic Challenge 5/6 Non-Pro Intermediate and Gelding divisions, and she tied for tenth in Wednesday’s NCHA Derby Non-Pro Finals on Angel N Disguise 016.

Good won last year’s NCHA Derby Non-Pro Limited and Breeders Invitational Non-Pro Limited riding Sabrina Boon LTE $72,607, by Boon A Little. She also won the 2017 NCHA Futurity Non-Pro Limited and placed third in the 2018 NCHA Derby Non-Pro Limited with Sneakish LTE $74,041, by Hottish.

Bred by Charles Burger and shown in Open limited age competition by Chris Hanson, Code Belue is out of Duals Play Kit LTE $235,489, winner of the 2006 NCHA Classic Challenge 5/6 Non-Pro Limited with Clay McCullar, and dam of 12 earners of over $420,000.

Cody Hedlund, the NCHA Non-Pro Hall of Fame earner of $1,043,237, showed  Teles One Time LTE to place fifth in the 2019 NCHA Classic Challenge 5/6 Non-Pro and as a finalist in the Open Limited. The 6-year-old gelding, earner of $89,664, is a half-brother to 2017 NCHA Horse of the Year Meteles Cat LTE $433,565, bred by Cody’s parents Rock and Landy Hedlund, out of Teles Lies LTE $93,206.

Kristen Galyean, the NCHA Hall of Fame earner of $840,721, showed Duramax Dually LTE $229,112, who her husband, Wes Gaylean, had ridden on July 15, to score 226 points and claim the 2020 NCHA Classic Challenge Open championship.

Kristen Galyean had won the NCHA Non-Pro Derby and the Non-Pro Limited in 2010, on Harley LTE $203,574, by Spots Hot, and was Non-Pro champion of last year’s NCHA Futurity, aboard Coureygous LTE $106,836, by Dual Rey, who she also showed as a finalist in Wednesday’s Finals.

Bred by the Glover/Galyean Partnership, Claremore, Okla.,  Duramax Dually is a half-brother to the Peptoboonsmal gelding ZR One LTE $75,178, who Kristen showed to win the 2014 NCHA Super Stakes Non-Pro championship.
