It was prime time for Jerry Durant, Weatherford,Texas, on Tuesday, July 21, when two horses bred by him out of Prime Time Kat LTE $127,428, by High Brow Cat, topped the Classic Challenge Amateur go-round of the 2020 NCHA Metallic Cat NCHA Summer Spectacular.

Corrie Rousey, Weatherford, Tex., won the Classic Challenge Amateur round with 221 points riding Dual Prime Time, a 6-year-old gelding sired by Dual Rey out of Prime Time Kat. And Michelle Reichart, Frankton, Ind., scored 220.5 on the 5-year-old gelding Sweet Lil Prime Time, by Sweet Lil Pepto. In addition, Reichart and Sweet Lil Pepto tied with 218 points, the second-highest score leading to the Classic Challenge Intermediate Finals.

In the Intermediate and Limited Amateur go-rounds, a pair of Kit Kat Sugar daughters carried the winners. Holly Ann Holsey, Lovelady, Tex., won the Classic Challenge Amateur Limited go-round with 220 points on 5-year-old Sugar Railena, by Kit Kat Sugar, while in the Classic Challenge Amateur Intermediate go-round, Sadye Simpson, Nemo, Tex., was the high-scoring rider with 218.5 points aboard 5-year-old Smart Sugar Kitty, by Kit Kat Sugar.

Corrie Rousey, the NCHA earner of $118,123, has shown Dual Prime Time LTE $117,972 to earn over $14,000 in 2020, including as a Non-Pro finalist in the Augusta Futurity 5/6 Classic and winner of both the Augusta Amateur and Amateur Intermediate 5/6 championships. Tate Bennett also showed Dual Prime Time successfully in 2018 and 2019 Open limited age competition, including as reserve champion of the 2018 Abilene Spectacular.

Holly Holsey, the NCHA earner of $10,149, placed seventh in the 2017 Brazos Bash 4-Year-Old Amateur on Smooth Reycelle LTE $18,496, by Smooth As A Cat, and third in the 2018 Western States Derby with Reckelle $18,094, by Metallic Cat. Sugar Railena LTE $50,068, Holsey’s Classic Challenge mount, placed fourth in the 2020 NCHA Classic Challenge Open Intermediate under Brett McGlothlin, who also showed her as reserve champion in both the 2019 West Texas Futurity 4-Year-Old Open Intermediate and Open Limited divisions.

Bred by Greg Smith, Sugar Railena LTE $50,068, is a half-sister to 2017 NCHA Futurity Open champion Dual Reyish LTE $402,130, out of A Little Reylena LTE $126,058, by Dual Rey. Sadye Simpson, the NCHA earner of $66,375, was Amateur reserve champion of the 2016 NCHA Classic Challenge and, in January of this year, showed Smart Sugar Kitty to win both the Abilene Spectacular 5/6 Amateur Unlimited and Amateur Intermediate championships. In addition, Wes Ashlock showed Smart Sugar Kitty as champion of the 2019 Abilene Spectacular Open, and to place ninth in 2020.

Smart Sugar Kitty LTE $68,692, bred by Rusty Simpson, is out of 2013 NCHA Futurity champion Dual Smart Kitty LTE $316,251.
