Weekly Update #8

May 20, 2020, 15:09 PM by Jay Winborn
The eighth weekly update from Executive Director Jay Winborn.

Good Afternoon NCHA,

In the coming weeks, I hope NCHA and the sport we love will begin to return to normal. Starting June 3rd, NCHA will reinstate the world standings and award programs. These standings will include Amateur Horse and Rider of the Year, Non-Pro and Open Horse of the Year, Rookie of the Year, Senior World Tour, World, Youth World, and Youth Rookie of the Year Standings.

I understand that NCHA still has regions where members are not able to return to the show pen due to government regulations. Our staff and leadership are continuing to evaluate alternative options regarding the terms for qualifying and eligibility at the 2020 World Finals. We will share more details in the coming weeks as they become available.

I know that we are all anxious to get back to showing, but I want to remind everyone to continue to use the best practices and guidelines set forth by their local government officials. I want to encourage each of our show producers and members to make the best decisions for the health and safety of our members.

On Monday, May 18th, the state of Texas released recommended health protocols for rodeos and equestrian events held within the state. NCHA will be following these guidelines closely during the Metallic Cat 2020 NCHA Summer Cutting Spectacular.  We do not expect significant changes to the competition format; however, we do expect there to be safety modifications in place with regard to seating, food services, and vendor options. Even with these modifications, we are looking forward to a great show.

I am excited to share that the Texas Quarter Horse Association (TQHA) will be offering a $100,000 incentive for TQHA members that enter Texas-foaled horses at the Summer Spectacular as well. This program will follow the same guidelines and rules that were announced pertaining to the Super Stakes. Information regarding the incentive can be found at http://bit.ly/3aZ4BfB

With the excitement of our show season resuming, I want to wish each of you the best of luck as you return to the arena and ask that we continue to pray for our cutting families that remain affected by this pandemic. Many of our friends in California, the Pacific Northwest, and Canada remain on lockdown and I pray that they will be able to join us in the cutting pen soon.

Best to you,

Jay Winborn

NCHA Executive Director
