Galyean and Desiresometallic dominate 5/6 Open Limited Finals

Jody Galyean and Desiresometallic scored a definitive win with 223 points on Tuesday, in the 12-horse Arbuckle Mountain 5/6-Year-Old Limited Open. It was the first win of the year for the pair, although earlier this month, Galyean had won the Bonanza Open Intermediate on Lil Miss Jackson and placed fourth in the Open Limited on Desiresometallic.

Clay Johnson showed  Ima Rey Kat, owned by William and Billie Aylesworth, Lipan, Tex., to earn 218.5 points and the reserve championship; while Teryn Muench and Reyvenge, owned by Gale Knickelbein, Pilot Point, Tex., placed third with 218 points.

Sired by Metallic Cat and owned by Atwood Quarter Horses Inc., Houston, Tex., 6-year-old Desiresometallic LTE $173,607 collected three wins last year, with Beau Galyean in the Southern Futurity 5/6 Open, and with Rodrigo Taboga in the Ike Hamilton 5/6 Open Intermediate and the Brazos Bash 5/6 Open Limited. She earned her second-biggest payout, however, as a 4-year-old finalist under Jody Galyean, in the 2018 NCHA Super Stakes Open; Beau would show her later that summer to place in the NCHA Derby.

Jody Galyean, the NCHA Open Hall of Fame earner of $4.2 million, collected his first major payout in 1985, when he showed Smokin Leo Lady to place fifth in the NCHA Open Futurity. The next year he won the NCHA Futurity riding Royal Silver King LTE $164,065. Last year, Galyean was an NCHA Futurity Open Semi-Finalist on LBR Chic, and placed third in the NCHA Derby aboard Exs N Ohhs LTE $109,368.

Sired by Kit Kat Sugar and bred by Billie Aylesworth, 6-year-old Ima Rey Cat LTE $40,976 has been shown almost exclusively in amateur and non-pro events, with the exception of the 2019 Waco Futurity 5/6 Open, where he was a finalist with Clay Johnson.

Clay Johnson, an NCHA Hall of Fame Rider with earnings of $1,170,809, and winner of the 2013 NCHA Futurity with Dual Smart Kitty LTE $316,251, as well as the 2012 NCHA Super Stakes under KR Isadora Dual LTE $146,164, has been a 2020 finalist in the Bonanza with Lil Metallic Ace and at Abilene under Smart Cat Rey RG and with Once Mor LTE $68,847, who he showed as a finalist in the 2019 NCHA Futurity.

Five-year-old Reyvenge LTE $13,264, by Reys Dual Badger, won the 2019 West Texas Futurity Open Limited with Muench, and placed third and sixth, respectively, in the Non-Pro Open Limited and the Cotton Stakes Open Limited. Teryn Muench is the NCHA earner of $113,767.
