On Thursday morning, Misty Greeson, Bartlesville, Okla., scored 222 points on Lil Maddy Rey, by Dual Smart Rey, to win the NCHA Transwest Western Nationals $50,000 Amateur championship. Colette Benson, Lac La Biche, Alberta, was reserve champion with 219 points on Candy Girl, by That Sly Cat, while Duce Barlow placed third with 218 points on Mr Connerey, by Dual Rey.

Leading up to this year, Misty Greeson and 7-year-old Lil Maddy Rey $82,999 had competed successfully in limited age events, while Lindy Northcutt showed the mare in Open limited age divisions. In 2017, Northcutt placed second with Lil Maddy Rey in the NCHA Classic Challenge Open Limited Finals, and Greeson and the mare placed eighth in the Amateur Unlimited Finals of the same event.

Greeson and Lil Maddy Rey also won the 2017 Non-Pro Cutting $15,000 Amateur championship, and last year, they won the Arbuckle Mountain Amateur Classic, while Northcutt and Lil Maddy Rey claimed first in the Arbuckle Mountain Classic Open Limited.

In 2017, Colette Benson competed as a finalist in the NCHA Scottsdale Nationals $15,000 Amateur and $35,000 Non-Pro divisions riding Memorey. Last year, she showed Candy Girl LTE $81,002 to place second in the Amateur Finals of the Mane Event, and also placed eighth in the NCHA World Finals $25,000 Novice Non-Pro division. Mike Wood showed Candy Girl to place second in the 2018 NCHA World $25,000 Novice standings and, in addition, he showed her earlier this week, in the finals of the Western Nationals Open and $25,000 Novice divisions.

 Last year, Duce Barlow and Mr Connerey, placed third in the NCHA Western Nationals $5,000 Non-Pro Novice. Bred by Barlow Livestock, Mr Connerey LTE $195,601 had a successful career as an Amateur and Non-Pro limited age event competitor under Glenn Barlow, and was 2015 NCHA Amateur Horse of the Year.
