So far, so good

As the 2019 NCHA Limited Age event year nears midpoint and breeding season nears its end, the 2019 sire statistics, thus far, merit consideration. Metallic Cat, at 14, the youngest living stallion on the Top 10 list of All-Time Leading NCHA Sires, leads 2019 standings by a wide margin – $1,003,806 to Kit Kat Sugar’s $642,153, for second-place among sires of 4-year-olds, and $1,070,508 to Dual Rey’s $454,230, for second-place among sires of 5/6-year-olds. Thirteen stallions, however, share the limelight with Metallic Cat, so far, in 2019.

Ranked #2 and #3, respectively, among top sires of 4-year-old earners in 2019, Kit Kat Sugar and Dual Smart Rey out-rank all-time leading sires High Brow Cat (#4), and Dual Rey (#5), in this field. Kit Kat Sugar’s 4-year-old competitors include Sugrspiznevrthingniz (2019 earnings: $147,141), reserve champion of the 2019 NCHA Open Super Stakes. Sugrspiznevrthingniz is second among leading 2019 limited age event money earners to #1 ranked Sueper Trouper ($149,359), by Dual Smart Rey. In addition to Sueper Trouper, Non-Pro champion of the 2019 NCHA Super Stakes, Dual Smart Rey is also represented among 2019 leading sires by NCHA Super Stakes Open champion Hiss N Vinegar ($99,251); Super Stakes Classic Open champion Rollz Royce ($52,868); and Super Stakes Classic Non-Pro champion Carolena Reyn ($33,471).

Metallic Cat’s top 2019 earner is Metallic Curveball (2019 earnings: $103,188), who placed third in the NCHA Super Stakes and claimed first in the Super Stakes Novice and Open Gelding divisions. High Brow Cat, NCHA’s All-Time Leading Sire, with lifetime offspring earnings of over $78 million, and 2019 offspring earnings of $741,679, counts 4-year-olds The Cat Doctress ($59,250), Brite Lil Kitty ($45,281), and The Red Mamba ($37,987), as his top 2019 earners.

Dual Rey, cutting’s #2 All-Time Leading Sire, with offspring earnings of $38,735,811, passed away during last year’s breeding season, at the age of 24. His top performers of 2019 include 2018 NCHA Futurity champion Crey Zee, with $89,931 in 2019 earnings and a lifetime total of $272,992.  

Ranked #5 among All-Time Leading NCHA Sires with $25 million in offspring earnings, 20-year-old Smooth As A Cat is sixth among 2019 sires, with offspring earnings of $500,457. Four-year-old Smoothest Ride (2019 earnings: $47,030), Bonanza Non-Pro reserve champion and sixth-placed in the NCHA Super Stakes Non-Pro finals, is his top 2019 earner. 

Hottish and Kit Kat Sugar, at 11 years, are the youngest leadings sires of 2019; they also count among seven stallions that appear on the Top 10 list of leading 4-year-old sires, as well as on the Top 10 list of leading 5/6-year-old sires. Hottish ranks seventh overall among sires of 2019, with offspring earnings $474,652 for the year.

Woody Be Tuff (#6 with $295,986), Once In A Blu Boon (#9 with $197,476), and Bamacat (#10 with $183,591), also rank among 2019’s Top 10 sires of 4-year-olds; while High Brow CD (#5 with $282,217), Bet Hesa Cat (#6 with $256,385), and Spots Hot (#7 with $237,611) rank among the 2019’s Top 10 sires of 5/6-year-olds.
