Arbuckle Non-Pro Classic
Ashley Flynn scores Arbuckle Mountain Non-Pro Classic win
Riding Smooth Lines, by Smooth As A Cat, Ashley Flynn, Weatherford, Tex., scored 222 points on Saturday to win the Arbuckle Mountain Non-Pro Classic . Chelsea Tatum, Overbrook, Kan., earned reserve with 218.5 points aboard Bobs Smart Rey, by Dual Rey, and Megan Miller, Poolville, Tex., placed third with 217.5 on Carolena Reyn, by Dual Smart Rey.
Ashley Flynn, the NCHA Non-Pro Hall of Fame earner of $650,767, was reserve champion of the 2015 Non-Pro Futurity on the Dual Rey gelding LHR Smooth James Rey $173,716, who she also showed to place third in the 2016 NCHA Non-Pro Super Stakes, and to win the 2018 Abilene Spectacular Non-Pro Classic. This is the second Arbuckle Mountain Non-Pro Classic win for Flynn, who also claimed the championship in 2011 on Smart Frosty Cat $195,917, by Smooth As A Cat.
Five-year-old gelding Smooth Lines $100,575 carried Flynn to the finals of the 2017 NCHA Non-Pro Futurity, and five additional finals in 2018, including as non-pro champion of the Southern Futurity, and as reserve champion of the Breeders Invitational. Last month, Flynn and Smooth Lines, were also reserve champions of the Abilene Spectacular Non-Pro Classic.
Chelsea Tatum, the NCHA earner of $112,235, and 6-year-old Bobs Smart REY $114,692, have been partners since 2016, when Tatum earned her first limited age event check riding the Dual Rey daughter to place fourth in the NCHA Non-Pro Futurity, and as a Non-Pro Limited finalist. Since then, the two have placed in 10 major events, with three championship wins and three reserve championships. The wins include the 2017 PCCHA 4-Year-Old Non-Pro; the 2018 Abilene Spectacular Non-Pro Limited; and the 2018 NCHA Super Stakes Classic Non-Pro Limited.
Megan Miller, the NCHA Non-Pro Hall of Fame earner of $1,164,700, showed 5-year-old Carolena Reyn to win last year’s NCHA Non-Pro Super Stakes, while Megan’s husband, Matt Miller, showed the Dual Smart Rey daughter as 2018 Arbuckle Mountain Open champion. The Millers bred Carolena Reyn out of Carolena Moon $76,150, and so far she has won four open and non-pro championships for them, as well as two reserve championships.
