NCHA Futurity champion and reserve meet again
For 22 horses competing on Sunday, in the second go-round of the Bonanza Open Derby, a cumulative score of 435 or better was the ticket to Monday’s Open Derby Finals Monday, which follow the Non-Pro Classic first go-round. Badboonarising, who tied Crey Zee with 222 points, the high score of the second go-round, also tied Sugrspiznevrthingniz with 441 points, the top cumulative score. Crey Zee, shown by Tatum Rice, and Badboonarising, under Adan Banuelos, were the 2018 NCHA Futurity champion and reserve champion, respectively.
Fracker Brown, with Chris Johnsrud, who shared the first-round lead with Sugrspiznevrthingniz at 222 points, earned a cumulative of 438.5 to tie Sweet Lil Prime Time, under Phil Hanson. Their 438.5 points was the third-highest cumulative score; Crey Zee claimed the second-highest cumulative with 439 points.
Badboonarising $161,528, by Once In A Blu Boon, is owned by Plantation Farms LLC. and was sold by his breeder, Royce Stallcup, for $150,000 at Western Bloodstock’s 2017 NCHA Futurity Sales. Stallcup is also the breeder of Rollz Royce $189,826, by Dual Smart Rey, winner of Saturday’s Bonanza Classic and a half-brother to Badboonarising, out of Show Biz Kitty, by High Brow Cat.
Sugrspiznevrthingniz $10,898, sired by Kit Kat Sugar and shown by Matt Gaines for Jim Vangilder, was a semi-finalist with Gaines in the NCHA Futurity. Bred by Robert Rust, she is the first money earner out of the Lizzys Gotta Player daughter Jewels Gotta Lizzy $10,776. Her second dam, Lenas Jewelette, produced three NCHA earners of $305,774.
Crey Zee $205,037, sired by Dual Rey, and bred and owned by Kevin and Sydney Knight, came to the Bonanza from the championship win in the Ike Hamilton Futurity, on January 29, 2019.
Fracker Brown $41,886, owned by Schmitz/Brown, is a Smooth As A Cat-sired half-brother to Whiskeynadirtyglass. The sorrel stallion was an NCHA Futurity and Abilene Spectacular Open finalist with Johnsrud.
Sweet Lil Prime Time $43,288, a half-brother to Dual Prime Time $85,468, is sired by Sweet Little Pepto and owned by his breeder, Jerry Durant. Phil Hanson also showed Sweet Lil Prime Time to win the 2018 Pacific Coast Futurity and the Waco Futurity.
