2018 North Texas Chevy Dealers NCHA Futurity, presented by Great American Insurance

Ken Schultz, riding Rockin Those Tricks, topped Thursday, the first day of Amateur/Unlimited Amateur competition, with 217 points. He came back with Rockin Those Tricks on Friday to tie Michael Schreck and Countin On Boon with 215 points, the day’s overall high score. Both men were showing as Unlimited Amateur contenders.

On Saturday, riding Calvin Baloo as an Unlimited Amateur contender, Schultz scored 215.5 points to tie fellow Unlimited rider Blake Heid, Fort Worth, Tex., riding Nothing Comes Easy, for the high score of the day. Charles Russell Bushaw, Weatherford, Tex., was Saturday’s high-scoring Amateur with 214.5 points on Wood You See.

Calvin Baloo, a gelding by Lil Catbaloo, is out of Dual Rey daughter Spookywearinstiletos, a half-sister, out of San Starlight, to 14 earners of over $1.4 million. Heid’s horse, Nothing Comes Easy, by Kit Kat Sugar, is out of Smooth Little Cat ($54,465), a full sister, by Smooth As A Cat, to Cat Black I ($208,229).

Blake Heid, the NCHA earner of $73,717, placed seventh in last year’s NCHA Futurity Amateur Finals with PRF Cats Value, by Hydrive Cat, who carried him this year as an NCHA Super Stakes Amateur finalist. Also this year, Heid claimed reserve in the West Texas Futurity Classic Unlimited Amateur riding CC Capreycious, by Halreycious. In addition, he placed seventh in the NCHA Super Classic Unlimited Amateur on Catty Lil Cd, who also carried him as an NCHA Classic Challenge Unlimited Amateur finalist.

Charles Russell Bushaw, the NCHA earner of $82,578, showed Snappcat, by High Brow Cat, to place seventh in last year’s NCHA Futurity Unlimited Amateur. This year, he scored championship wins in the Cotton Stakes 5/6 Amateur aboard Velvets Revolver, by WR This Cats Smart; the West Texas Futurity Amateur with Bittersweet, by Metallic Cat; and the NCHA Eastern Nationals $35,000 Non-Pro with Peptotoodie, by Peptotime.

Wood You See, Bushaw’s 2018 NCHA Futurity mount, is a Woody Be Tuff daughter out of The Catattac, by High Brow Cat. Wood You See’s half-sister CR Gotcha Covered, by Dualin Boon, is the earner of $218,462.

The 2018 NCHA Futurity Amateur/Amateur Unlimited first go-round continues daily through Sunday, December 2.
