New Duramax Diesel Trucks
Fort Worth, Texas ---- Chevy Trucks, a corporate sponsor of the National Cutting Horse Association (NCHA) for the past 15 years, has increased their level of sponsorship support of the organization, it was recently announced.
At the 2001 Eastern and Western Chevy Trucks National Championships, Chevy Trucks will be providing the use for a year of one of the auto maker’s new Silverado 3500 Duramax Diesel one ton trucks. The new model trucks come complete with a Duramax Diesel engine (which is the most powerful diesel engine available), Allison 1000 series five-speed automatic transmission and heavy-duty trailering package.
One of these trucks will be awarded to the cutter marking the highest scoring run at the Chevy Trucks Eastern National Championships in Jackson, Mississippi (scheduled for March 13 – 25, 2001). A second truck will be awarded to the cutter marking the highest scoring run at the Chevy Trucks Western National Championships in Ogden, Utah, slated for April 27 – May 5, 2001.
“We are extremely pleased to have the opportunity to provide these Chevy trucks to our members at the Eastern and Western National Championships,” NCHA President Jim Milner said. “Chevy Trucks has been a longtime sponsor of the NCHA, and the new Duramax diesel they have come out with has been met with rave reviews by the people who have driven them.
“Cutters need a truck with a lot of power and dependability. This new model by Chevrolet really fills that bill, and I’m confident we’ll be seeing a lot of them driven by our members around the country.”
The 2001 Chevy Trucks Eastern and Western National Championships each boast $90,000 in added money. NCHA members gain eligibility to enter the shows’ 11 classes by finishing among the top 10 area leaders from the 25 NCHA areas, or in the top 10 of an NCHA affiliate for the 2000 point year. Each of the Chevy Trucks National Finals includes two (jackpot) Youth classes, divided into a 13 & under age group and a 14 – 18 year-old age group.
The format to win use of one of the new Chevy trucks allows competitors in each class an opportunity to “drive home a winner.” One truck at each show will be provided to the person marking the highest scoring run during the duration of the event. In case of a tie, a tiebreaker system will be utilized.
“Chevrolet is proud to be a long-time sponsor of the NCHA,” noted Chevrolet Brand Promotion Manager Jeff Haag. “Our affiliation has become even stronger with the offering of the new Duramax Diesel engine, and the new Silverado HD series of trucks.”
Chevrolet's corporate sponsorship is an important part of the programs and events conducted by NCHA for its membership and those involved in cutting. The sport of cutting has roots in Western ranching traditions, where good horses were a necessity for everyday ranch work and cattle handling. "Cutting" horses specialized in their ability to separate or "cut" one cow from a herd of others, for branding, doctoring or shipping. The National Cutting Horse Association was formed in 1946 by a group of cowboys and ranchers who wanted to promote cutting competitions, standardize rules and preserve the cutting horses' Western heritage. Today, the Fort Worth-based NCHA represents more than 12,000 members in 22 countries and oversees more than 1,400 NCHA-approved shows with more than $22 million in total prize money awarded annually.
