Sweet win for Smart Sugar Kitty

Smart Sugar Kitty, shown by Wes Ashlock for Buck Creek Quarter Horses, Nemo, Tex., scored 221.5 points late in the second set of the 25-horse Abilene Spectacular Futurity Open Finals to claim the $17,000 championship. The Red Mamba, with Michael Cooper for Rose Valley Ranch, Weatherford, Tex., who had scored 221 points through the first set, collected the reserve championship and $15,000, while Reycan In The Cash, with Lloyd Cox for Pat and Lisa Taylor, Pilot Point, Tex., took third place and $13,000 with 219 points.

Bred by Rusty Simpson and sired by Kit Kat Sugar, Smart Sugar Kitty is out of 2010 NCHA Futurity Open champion Dual Smart Kitty $316,251, by Dual Smart Rey. She and her full brother, Dualin Kit Kat $7,579, also a 2015 model, are Dual Smart Kitty’s first performers.

Smart Sugar Kitty’s previous NCHA earnings of $8,973 came as an NCHA Futurity Open Semi-Finalist with Wes Ashlock. In addition to her official NCHA earnings for the Abilene Spectacular Open Futurity win, the sorrel mare also earned a supplemental $10,000 Stallion Incentive Bonus from the show.

The Red Mamba, bred by Linda Dison and sired by High Brow Cat, earned $414 in the NCHA Futurity Open Gelding division under Gavin Jordan. The sorrel gelding is a three-quarter brother, out of BR Tommy Girl, by Playgun, to DMAC Spoonshine $19,943.

The Red Mamba is one of three Abilene Spectacular Open Futurity finalist owned by Rose Valley Ranch, and shown by Michael Cooper, including Tears From Heaven $46,229, by Dual Pep.

Reycan In The Cash, shown by Lloyd Cox was reserve champion of the NCHA Futurity Open Limited, as well as an Open Semi-Finalist with Greg Wright. Sired by Dual Rey, Reycan In The Cash is a full brother to Cancan Reyvolution $176,682 and Kitty Can Dual $108,297, out of Cancan Kitty, by High Brow Cat.

Lloyd Cox also showed Exs N Ohhs, by Kit Kat Sugar, and Ms Baby Cakes, by Metallic Cat, as Abilene Spectacular Open Futurity finalists (11-14 and 16-19).
