2018 North Texas Chevy Dealers NCHA Futurity, presented by Great American Insurance

NCHA Futurity Amateur/Amateur Unlimited go-round competition concluded on Sunday. Amateur entrants with scores of 207 or higher are eligible to advance to the Amateur Semi-Finals on Tuesday, December 4; Amateur Unlimited entrants with scores of 209 or higher are eligible to advance to the Amateur Unlimited Semi-Finals on Wednesday, December 5.

Ken Schultz, Sacramento, Calif., won the go-round as an Amateur entrant, with 217 points riding Rockin Those Tricks, by Rockin W. Schultz also qualified for the Amateur Unlimited Semi-Finals on Rockin Those Tricks (215), as well as on Calvin Baloo, by Lil Catbaloo (215.5).

Bella Anderson, Weatherford, Tex., and Mike Schraeder, Cypress, Tex., each previously scored 216 points to top all Amateur Unlimited contenders. Anderson is riding The Kwack Shack, by Spots Hot, who also qualified for the NCHA Futurity Open Semi-Finals, on Saturday, December 8, under Pedro Ornelas. Schraeder rides Aristocraticaly Cat, by High Brow Cat.

Three riders scored 214.5 points on Sunday, the day’s high mark: Gary Barker, Madill, Okla.; Langston Pattillo, St. Elmo, Ill.; and Joel Colgrove, Boligee, Ala. Barker, an Unlimited Amateur entrant on Nu Kat, by Kit Kat Sugar, won the 2018 NCHA Super Stakes Classic Unlimited Amateur on Smooth Nu Cat($193,816), a three-quarter brother to Nu Kat.

Pattillo, showing Smart Tallic, by Metallic Cat, as an Unlimited Amateur rider, won the 2018 NCHA Super Stakes Classic Amateur on Dualin Smooth Legacy, by Smooth As A Cat, as well as the NCHA Classic Challenge Unlimited Amateur with High Stylin CD, by High Brow CD.

Pattillo also qualified for Thursday’s Non-Pro Semi-Finals riding Kit Kat Kisses, by Kit Kat Sugar.

Joel Colgrove, who showed Catolena Express to score 214.5 on Sunday, as an Amateur rider, also qualified the Woody Be Tuff son for the Non-Pro Semi-Finals.

Tom Williams, Haleyville, Ala., and Robert Thigpen, Chilton, Tex., tied with 215.5 points, the second-highest score among Amateur entrants in the go-round. Williams rides Sofies Choice Cat, by High Brow Cat, as an Amateur. Sofies Choice Cat is a full sister to Sofies Cat, who Williams showed to place ninth in last year’s NCHA Futurity Amateur Finals.

Thigpen, qualified aboard Metallic Rita for both the Amateur (215.5) and the Unlimited Amateur (212) Semi-Finals. Metallic Rita, by Metallic Cat, is out of Pats Little Senorita, who Thigpen showed as a 2006 NCHA Super Stakes Amateur finalist.

The 2018 NCHA Futurity Amateur/Amateur Unlimited continues daily through Sunday, December 9; the NCHA Futurity Sales, held at Will Rogers Equestrian Center in conjunction with the NCHA Futurity, begin Monday, December 3 and continue daily through December 8.
