2018 North Texas Chevy Dealers NCHA Futurity, presented by Great American Insurance

Ken Schultz scored 217 points aboard Rockin Those Tricks on Thursday, to top the first day of Amateur/Unlimited Amateur competition, as well as Thursday’s Amateur contenders. On Friday, Schultz and his Rockin W daughter earned 215 points to tie with Michael Schreck and Countin On Boon for the day’s overall high score. Both men were showing as Amateur Unlimited contenders.

Michael Shreck, Dike, Iowa, has proven hard to beat in Midwest limited age events during the past five years. He has won the Wyoming, Nebraska, Western States, and Iowa 3-Year-Old Non-Pro Futurities, as well as the 2017 Nebraska Futurity Open and Non-Pro championships on CR Tuff To Beat, by Woody Be Tuff.

On Thursday night, Schreck, the NCHA earner of $217,622, placed in the 2018 NCHA $5,000 Novice Non-Pro World Finals riding the Hydrive Cat son Play N Dirty ($47,801), who he also showed to win the 2016 Nebraska Futurity Non-Pro and the 2017 Nebraska Derby Non-Pro.

Countin On Boon, Schreck’s NCHA Futurity Unlimited Amateur mount, is by Im Countin Checks and out of Boon San Kitty ($498,188), the 2004 NCHA Open Horse of the Year and dam of earners of $829,386, including 2009 NCHA Futurity Open champion Rockin W ($329,722).

Jessica De Filippo, Miami, Fla., earned 214.5 points on Friday, showing Smart Curley Rey, by Dual Smart Rey, as an Unlimited Amateur entrant. It was the second-highest score of the day.

De Filippo, the NCHA earner of $40,387, was a 2018 NCHA Super Stakes Classic Unlimited Amateur finalist on Wasabi Spice ($19,223), who also carried her as a finalist in both Amateur divisions of the Bonanza Classic. In the 2018 NCHA Classic Challenge, De Filippo showed My CD Player as a 5/6 Amateur Finalist.

The 2018 NCHA Futurity Amateur/Amateur Unlimited first go-round continues daily through Sunday, December 2.
