$5,000 Novice Champion

Ichin In The Reyn, by Cat Ichi, tied with the high score of 219 points in the $5,000 Novice NCHA TransWest go-round, then upped the ante with 225 points, as third to work, in the 29-horse finals. Shown by Dusty Nelsen for EE Ranches, Whitesboro, Tex., 6-year-old Ichin In The Reyn’s score was never threatened.
Peptos Jazzy Cat, who tied Ichin In The Reyn and Not Yo Kitty in the go-round, posted a duplicate 219-point score in the finals to claim the reserve championship. The 7-year-old High Brow Cat gelding was shown by Randy Chartier for Pam Moreland, Weatherford, Tex.
Four-year-old PRF One Mas Time placed third with 218 points under Ben Roberson. The One Time Pepto daughter is owned by Peter Deleeuw, Paige, Tex.
Bred by EE Ranches, Ichin In The Reyn was $5,000 Novice reserve champion at the this year’s NCHA Eastern Nationals, where EE Ranches’ owner Jo Ellard also showed him to place fourth in the $5,000 Novice Non-Pro finals. Last year, Guy Woods and Jo Ellard qualified Ichin In The Reyn for the NCHA Eastern Nationals $5,000 Novice, $5,000 Novice Non-Pro, and $25,000 Novice Non-Pro finals.

Peptos Jazzy Cat LTE $50,915 first made his presence felt at the 2015 NCHA Super Stakes, where he earned money in four open and non-pro divisions. Randy Chartier, an NCHA Hall of Fame Rider with earnings of $1,333,621, also showed Cat Ladell, by High Brow CD, to tie for fourth with 217 points.
Guy Woods, a record-holding NCHA Nationals champion for EE Ranches, also scored 217 points on EE Ranches-owned Lakers Michelangelo, which tied three other horses for fourth through seventh places, including Randy Chartier (reserve champion on Peptos Jazzy Cat), aboard Cat Ladelle, by High Brow CD, owned by Layne Bartl, Trilby, Fla. The other 217-point earners were Just Happy Tobe Here, by Metallic Cat, with Terry Hollis for Terri Bauer, Mansfield, Tex., and Reylena Cat, by Metallic Cat, with Ashely Baxstrom for Jacob Mendenhall, Edmond, Okla.
