John Rockey, an Amateur contender from Palmdale, Calif., and Unlimited Amateur rider Glen Nelson, Mesa Ariz., topped the last day of four days of Amateur/Unlimited Amateur go-round competition with matching scores of 216 points. Amateur riders with scores of 206 points or higher qualified for the Amateur Semi-Finals on Tuesday, Dec. 5; Unlimited Amateurs with scores of 210 points or higher qualified for the Unlimited Amateur Semi-Finals on Wednesday, Dec. 6.

Bella Anderson, Victoria, Tex., held her status as Amateur go-round winner, with 217 points on homebred Bobby Jack Cat, by Cats Quixote Jack. Glen Nelson’s high score of 216 points tied with earlier Unlimited Amateur contenders Glenn Barlow on Reyzer, by Dual Rey; Russ De Cordova on Lucille Russel, by Metallic Cat; Jaycee Lowery on Rey Banz Cat, by Dual Rey; and Traci Shehady on You Cant Buy Love, by Cats Gotta Diamond.

John Rockey, the NCHA earner of $138,185, was a 2017 NCHA Super Stakes Amateur finalist on Medal For Honor, who he also showed to win the Cattlemen’s Derby Amateur championship.  He was also a 2016 NCHA Classic Challenge Amateur and Unlimited Amateur finalist on Let Georgie Do It, as well as Unlimited Amateur champion of the PCCHA Derby.

Dureyngo Kid, Rockey’s 2017 Amateur Semi-finalist, is a gelded son of Reys Dual Badger and out of Hissy Cat LTE $307,099, the dam of earners of $630,308, including Johnny Reyngo $191,079 and Hisstereya, both by Dual Rey and three-quarter siblings to Dureyngo Kid. Two yearling siblings out of Hissy Cat also sell this week in the NCHA Futurity Sales: the filly Hugs N Hisses, Hip #39, in the Select Yearling Sale, and the colt John Wreyne, Hip #3139, in the Preferred Breeders Sale, Session I.

Glen Nelson, NCHA earner of $113,868, was a 2016 NCHA Futurity Unlimited Amateur finalist on Mamas Reynman, who he also showed as an Unlimited Amateur finalist in the 2017 NCHA Derby and the 2017 Bonanza Derby. Mamas Sugar Kat, Nelson’s 2017 NCHA Futurity Amateur mount, is by Kit Kat Sugar and out of Little Black Boon LTE $116,501.

Four riders on Sunday tied with 215.5 points, the second-highest score of the day:

  • 215.5 Amateur Gaia Salvatori of Modena, Italy, on American Beauty Cat (Smart Rey Pepto x Savannah Cathouse)
  • 215.5 Amateur German Lugo of Gainesville, Tex., on Toodie Rey (Dual Rey x Hickorys Toodie Lena)
  • 215.5 Unlimited Amateur Alberto Rodriguez of Tioga, Tex., on Metallic Mo (Metallic Cat x Mo Flo)
  • 215.5 Unlimited Amateur Kathy Strain of White River, S.D., on TR Sweet Justice (SDP Justice Is Comin x Sneakin Fly)
