Day Two: Derby Non-Pro first go-round
Sydney Roland, Murchison, Tex., with 219 points aboard Smart Dual Kat, was the high-scoring rider on the last day of NCHA Derby Non-Pro / Non-Pro Limited first go-round competition. Sydney shares the first round high score with Elizabeth Quirk, who showed on Tuesday. Sydney will advance to Saturday’s NCHA Derby Non-Pro Limited Finals, while Elizabeth returns on Thursday in the second go-round of the Non-Pro.sydney-roland

Smart Dual Kat, by Dual Smart Rey, was bred by Eddie and Barbara Young, owners and breeders of HC Herd Boss, the 2017 NCHA Derby Limited Open champion. Smart Dual Kat LTE $38,503, owned by Sydney’s parents, Lee and Holly Francois, carried Holly as champion of the NCHA Super Stakes Non-Pro Limited, as well as the champion of the Breeders Invitational Non-Pro Limited. Holly Francois will also ride Smart Dual Kat in Thursday’s second round of the Non-Pro, after marking a 214 on Tuesday.

Sydney, the NCHA earner of $28,544, placed eighth in the 2018 NCHA Futurity Non-Pro Limited, when she was 16.
