Competition in the first go-round of the NCHA Super Stakes Open began on Wednesday with four working sets, continued Thursday with seven sets, and concludes Friday with seven sets. With 169 horses worked; 111 yet to be worked; and a bubble yet to be established, 12 horses have emerged as leaders with scores of 218 points or higher:

221 – SOMETHINGTOBELIEVEIN LTE $40,892, by Hydrive Cat
Shown and owned by Brett McGlothlin, Perrin, Tex. Brett’s wife, Jody, rode the mare to win the 2016 NCHA Futurity Limited Non-Pro, and Brett rode the mare as a finalist in the Augusta Futurity and the Cattlemen’s Derby.

Shown by Sean Flynn for Mark Senn, Augusta, Ga. Flynn was reserve champion of the Abilene Spactacular aboard the red roan stallion.

220 – METALLIC D NERO LTE $17,735, by Metallic Cat
Shown by Cullen Chartier for Damiano Avigni of Italy. Avigni placed as a Super Stakes Amateur finalist earlier this week aboard Metallic D Nero and was an NCHA Futurity finalist in both the Amateur and Unlimited Amateur.

Shown by Matt Miller for Lannie Louise Mecom, Avondale, Colo. Lou Lou Louise placed ninth with Miller in the NCHA Futurity and fifth in the 2017 Ike Hamilton Futurity.

Shown by Casey Green for Leigh and Holly Bilton, Canada. Green showed Hes Real Special as reserve champion of the Ike Hamilton Futurity. Dam is half-sister to World Champion Special Nu Baby.

Shown by Wes Ashlock for Eddie and Barbara Young, San Angelo, Tex. Ashlock placed third with HC Tailgate Date in the Abilene Spectacular and also as a finalist in the Bonanza.

Shown by Clay Johnson for Lone Oak Performance Horses, Santa Maria, Calif. Johnson rode Reytalic as a finalist in the Arbuckle Mountain 4-Year-Old Cutting.

219 – TIME FOR A SMOOTHIE LTE $12,523, by Smooth As A Cat
Shown by Randy Chartier for Denise Seiz, Cedartwon, Ga. Seiz was reserve champion of the Augusta Futurity Unlimited Amateur aboard the red roan mare, and showed her this week as a finalist in the Super Stakes Unlimited Amateur.

Shown by Bill Riddle for Glenn and Debbie Drake, Napa, Calif. The red roan stallion is half-brother, out of Stylish And Foxie LTE $303,736, to Peptos Stylish Miss LTE $296,598 and Miss Stylish Pepto LTE $216,005. Riddle rode Stylish And Foxie as reserve champion of the 1987 Super Stakes.

Shown by Lee Francois for H. B. Bartlett, Pike Road, Ala. Desires Time, a semi-finalist in the NCHA Futurity, is out of Reys Desire LTE $393,766, who Francois rode as 2010 Super Stake champion and 2011 Super Stakes Classic champion.

218.5 – PURRN LIKEASMOOTHCAT LTE $94,257, by Smooth As A Cat
Shown and owned by Ascencion Banuelos, Jacksboro, Tex. Banuelos showed the dun stallion to place sixth in the NCHA Futurity.

218 – STYLISH BROW LTE $11,286, by High Brow CD
Shown by Kenny Platt for Robert Tregemba, Lawrence, Kan. Tregemba showed Stylish Brow as a finalist in the NCHA Futurity Unlimited Amateur and most recently as a finalist in the Super Stakes Unlimited Amateur.
