Owners must be members too!
Just a reminder to all youth competitors....although it is perfectly OK for youth members to show any horse in the youth classes (you don't have to own the horse), please keep in mind that the owners of the horse must be CURRENT NCHA members as well.  If you are showing a horse that belongs to someone else, please be sure to ask them if their NCHA membership has been paid for 2008.

Community Service Project

This year's NYCHA community service project will be collecting school supplies for needy children in the U.S. This is a great opportunity to get your whole area involved by announcing the project during the shows and setting up donation boxes at the shows.  We will provide NYCHA Area Directors with a list of donation centers located throughout the U.S. or supplies may also be donated directly to a local school in your area.  The most frequently requested items are crayons, pens, scissors, filler paper, construction paper, folders, glue, pencils, rulers and theme notebooks. Of course, teachers are always in need of a variety of items so if you find other school related supplies, feel free to donate those items as well.

All youth entries received a sweatshirt courtesy of Juniper Ridge Ranch, Meadow View Ranch and Dos Perros Farm.  Youth also received gift packs from our newest NYCHA sponsor Healthy HairCare Products.

Finalist awards included items from Teskey's, Murray Leather Goods, KO Trading, Healthy HairCare Products and buckles from Gist Silversmith.  Each Junior and Senior Champion and Reserve Champion received a $1,000 scholarship from Boehringher-Ingleheim Vetmedica, Inc.

Before the youth cutting competition began, youth members got to know their competitors on Friday evening at Toad's Family Fun Center where they socialized in the arcade room, dueled in laser tag, golfed like Tiger Woods and drove go-carts as if they were racing in the Indy 500. We think it's safe to say a good time was had by all who attended!

NYCHA Rookie of the Year

The National Youth Cutting Horse Association developed an award in 2004 to recognize youth competitors.  The NYCHA will present a junior and a senior “Rookie of the Year” Award.  In order to be eligible for the award in either age division a rider must have less than $500 NCHA lifetime earnings and less than 15 youth points at the beginning of the point year.  Our computer system automatically recognizes if you meet the qualifications so you don’t even need to contact us to be considered for this award– just keep showing your horse.

  • Junior Youth Rookie of the Year Award will go to the highest point earning Youth for the point year in the Junior Youth division.

  • Senior Youth Rookie of the Year Award will go to the highest point earning youth for the point year in the Senior Youth Division.

The Rookie of the Year in each age division will receive a $1,000 scholarship and a Rookie of the Year buckle.
