NCI Building Systems NCHA Futurity broadcast scheduled
The three-hour broadcast of the $4.4 million NCI Building Systems NCHA Futurity will air on RFD-TV on Tuesday, January 29, beginning at 9:00 a.m. CST. The program is presented by David McDavid, who owns the successful sires Hes A Peptospoonful and Widows Freckles. Austin Shepard marked 226 on Arthur Noble's High Brow CD to win the Open finals of the Futurity in Fort Worth on December 16. High Brow CD is a son of High Brow Cat out of Sweet Little CD, by CD Olena. American Quarter Horses slide onto NBC Sports
American Quarter Horses return to the small screen on January 12 for a national telecast on NBC Sports. The AQHA America’s Horse Championships presented by Ford Trucks is a special, one-hour broadcast of some of the most exciting action from the FedEx Open competition at the 2007 American Quarter Horse Association World Championship Show in Oklahoma City. The show begins at 5 p.m. Eastern Standard Time / 2 p.m. Pacific Standard Time on local NBC stations.

Two of the most popular events, cutting and reining, along with other features will be highlighted during the show. The junior cutting, for horses 5 years old and younger, will be shown. Read more here.

"AQHA Presents . . ." debuts
The American Quarter Horse Association's weekly program "AQHA Presents . . ." is showcased on RFD-TV. The program features a combination of entertaining and informative shows with the industry’s top trainers, along with classic episodes of past AQHA television programming and competitions from AQHA and its alliance partners’ championship events.

"AQHA Presents . . ." airs three times weekly – Wednesdays at 1 p.m. and 11 p.m. Eastern and Saturdays at 12:30 p.m. Eastern. Featured in 2008 will be "AQHA Team Wrangler Presents" – a series of educational and entertaining shows featuring top AQHA Professional Horsemen and Horsewomen, all members of the highly popular AQHA Team Wrangler program.

Abilene hosts first aged event of 2008

Matlock Rose, 1924-2008
NCHA Hall of Fame member Matlock Rose, who rode World Champions Stardust Desire, Peppy San, Peppy's Desire and Peponita (twice), passed away at his home in Van, Texas Saturday night.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, January 9 at Covenant Church-Crossroads, 8690 Liberty Drive, Aubrey, Texas. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the American Quarter Horse Foundation (PO Box 32111, Amarillo, TX 79120-9971 or online at www.aqha.com), the American Heart Association or Cutters in Action (NCHA Charities Foundation, 260 Bailey Ave., Fort Worth, TX 76107).

AQHA reaches milestone
The American Quarter Horse Association passed the 5 million mark in registered horses in December, to increase its standing as the world's largest equine breed association.

NYCHA Stallion Program underway
Members of the National Youth Cutting Horse Association are gearing up for the 2008 NYCHA Stallion Service Program.  Stallion owners may donate one breeding per year per stallion to the program.  Those breedings are then sold in a sealed bid auction.  All proceeds benefit the NYCHA to support scholarships, awards, and educational activities.  To participate in the program, fill out the 2008 donation form and return it to the NCHA office with a copy of the stallion's papers.  If your stallion will be standing at a breeding facility, be sure you notify them of your donation. As soon as we receive the signed contract we will post your stallion’s information and photo on the NCHA website and publish a list of donated breedings in the Chatter magazine.   Sealed bids on available breedings will be due to the NCHA office by 12 noon on February 1, 2008.

Buffalo Ranch Supports NYCHA with Stallion Fees
S.David Plummer’s Buffalo Ranch is helping the NYCHA by lots and lots -- Lots Of Acres, that is. For the 2008 breeding season, Buffalo Ranch will donate 100% of Lots Of Acres’ breeding fees to the NYCHA scholarship fund. All breeding fees from outside mares will be earmarked for youth scholarships, with a minimum guaranteed donation of $50,000 per year.

"We are extremely excited to have Buffalo Ranch's support of the youth scholarship program," said NCHA Youth Coordinator Danette McGuire. "Their generous donation will enable us to help even more youth members as they enter college and continue their educations."

Lots Of Acres is standing the 2008 season at Buffalo Ranch in Farmington, Utah. The Bob Acre Doc son was a finalist at the 2002 NCHA Open Futurity, and has lifetime earnings of $57,269. His first foals arrived in 2006.
